Our country lies in the Monsoon region of south Asia.This region in the world is very good and suitable for agriculture Nepal has different kinds of land structures and climatic regions. It has mountains hills and Tarai or plain land as well as valleys among high hills. The Tarai or valley regions very fertile. These regions have soil that is suitable for crop.

In Nepal, the economy is dominated by agriculture. It is the main source of livelihood for more percent of the population although only approximately 20 percent of the total land area is cultivable. There are grown different kinds of food and cash crops in Nepal. Different kinds of fruits, herbs, flowers, vegetables are grown in different parts of Nepal. According to the climate and land people keep different animals, fish and birds. All these are good sources of income of majority of Nepalese people. Rice is the most important cereal crop of Nepal. Other food crops included wheat millet, barley, and coffee, but their contribution to the agricultural sector is small. Cash crops like sugarcane, tobacco, tea, cardamom and jute are also grown in a considerable amount in Nepal. Potatoes and oilseed are also grown in different parts of the cou ntry However, agriculture as the main occupation is masth unproductive. Most farmers are poor people. They are not trained They lack modern methods and techniques of agriculture. There ar many serious problems in this field. The farmers are uneducate and have not resorted to modern methods of farming. This has e to traditional and outdated methods of farming being continied which in turn has neither improved the crops ner has it lmp yield. New kinds of manure and soil improvement techniques ha not been introduced. They stil use the ancient plough and oven to plough their fields. Another problem is that farmin t g does not pay very rich dividends. Therefore, most young men and women are not seeking careers as farmer. The irrigation facilities lso are poor. As majority of the people in Nepal are farmers, the development of the nation depends on development of agriculture. For this farmers need to be educated and made aware of the latest techniques in farming. New canals need to be constructed and irrigation facilities need to be available. The farmers need to be encouraged with proper returns and profit for their produce. New kinds of technically enhanced seeds should be made easily available to the farmers.
